Ease of control and communication with ebm-papst EC motor
ebm-papst A&NZ has recently developed an intelligent EC drive solution with Fans Direct, the leading ventilation company in Australia and New Zealand, for their MacroAir® – High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) fan.
The MacroAir® – High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) fan comes in sizes ranging from 12ft to 24ft in diameter.
The drive solution comprises of an ebm-papst VarioDrive C motor and a locally sourced inline, helical gearbox. The ebm-papst EC motor is controlled by MODBUS RTU over RS485 from an external controller. The scope of this digital control system includes:
- a) Ability to start / stop motor
- b) Manual / automatic speed adjustment
- c) Real-time closed loop speed control (dependent on temperature and humidity)
- d) Control of ramp up time and maximum speed
- e) Read motor status, including motor and electronics temperature, and running speed
The drive system can also be easily integrated as a part of a Building Management System (BMS), whereby the BMS can manage all supervisory functions of the EC motor.
The ebm-papst EC drive solution has allowed end users to have a compact, easy to use solution with minimal combination of motor – drive – gearbox variations. The EC drive solution makes the whole installation and operation of the fan easier, more reliable, quieter and energy efficient.
